A lovely lazy day!

IMG_6665This morning was great!  I woke up at 5:40.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep straight away, so caught up on some blogs for about an hour from bed before heading back to sleep just before 7am and sleeping through until 9.  Lovely!  Dan brought me breakfast in bed.  I’ve run out of blueberries, but I had half blueberry wheats and half Jordan’s crisp cereal with strawberries and semi-skimmed milk.  We then stayed in bed to finish watching the ENTIRE first disk of The Long Way Down before getting up around midday.  I hate laying in, but I desperately needed to after the past couple of weeks.  Bella watched us from her vantage point on the windowsill!  IMG_6674

We decided to head to Beans for a relaxed late lunch.  I was quite hungry by this point IMAG0550and I swear my belly had flattened and shrunk due to lack of food!  IMAG0548I grabbed a goats cheese, rocket and tomato wrap with a child size vanilla milkshake, no cream.  You can see Dan’s milkshake in the background loaded with cream!  I also grabbed the side salad from his toastie when it arrived.  Whilst we were in Beans, two club runners came to say hello.  Beans is the place to hang out if you go to my running club! Everytime we’ve been I’ve recognised somebody!  They were eager to tell me that they had just completed a 20 mile training run.  Didn’t have the heart to tell them I’d just gotten out of bed before slurping on my milkshake!

When we got back I started the fire and had a sit down for quarter of an hour before heading out for a five mile easy run.  (Much easier than the ‘easy’ sections of our run at club last night!)  Mile 1: 11:01 (inc warmup), Mile 2: 10:36 Mile 3: 10:10 Mile 4: 9:40 Mile 5: 9:45  I also bumped into another club runner who I ran with for a while when I was in group 5 just after the Summer last year and who has recently moved to my town.  I bigged up the route I was running as a nice 5 miler that had quiet roads.  At about mile 4 I was stopped by an old couple (one with a zimmerframe) who wanted to know where the road I had come from went.  I told them that it looped right back round to the town again.  When they asked how far it went and I replied “4.7 miles” the woman’s eyes literally shot wide open!  Not sure if it was because I knew exactly how far it was or that I had come that distance?!

IMG_6677I had bought some new running trainers a couple of months ago with the intention of breaking them in to run my marathon.  I keep forgetting to take them out on my short runs so pulled them out of the box today to discover they were a half size too small so I’ll have to take them back and exchange.  Hope I can do this and still have enough time to break them in before the marathon!

After my run I snacked on a heated up chocolate chip cookie before I showered while Dan made tea.

We had breaded fish, chips and peas…it is Friday after all…fish and chip day!  I’m not a massive fan of chips and don’t think I had ever cooked them until Dan and I got together!  I always keep some in the freezer spare for him now as he likes to have something quick and easy when he makes tea.

We watched Django Unchained tonight (with a second cookie) on the sofa.  This was a really long film.  It’s Quentin Tarantino and reminded me a lot of Oldboy and Kill Bill, neither of which I’m a great fan of either to be honest.

6 year anniversary

Does it make me sound like a child if I call it an anniversary?  When I first started at my current job I mentioned that we were going away for the weekend for our three year anniversary and somebody commented that they weren’t aware that I was married.  Of course I meant our three year anniversary of being together.  Is it still acceptable to call it anniversary as an adult if we’re not married?!

Anyway, we’ve been together six years as of March 28th 2013.  Hence why I didn’t blog yesterday, so I could see some of Dan.  Here’s a picture of us from six years ago…

We actually have a picture of the very first time we kissed, as we were both out with groups of friends when it happened and somebody took a picture of us and bluetoothed it to me afterwards.  This picture is saved on my old computer though and I’m too lazy to set it up right now.

Foodwise yesterday I grabbed a peanut butter bagel for breakfast and took some time cooking my remaining tofu in soy sauce before leaving for the last day of work before eighteen days off!  It was going to be a mega salad for lunch, including lots of tofu for the protein I’ve lacked lately.  Unfortunately I fancied munching on a bit of tofu when I first arrived at work and this happened…

Some of my year 9 students were selling buns at lunch so I snacked one of this for a quick chocolate fix after my salad.  Definitely worth the 50p I paid to charity!

When I finally got out of work and home I spent some time chilling with Dan on the couch before getting ready for run club.  Running tonight was tough again.  We ran 6.46 miles in 1h 8mins, although I don’t ever stop my watch when we regroup or stop at crossings to get over the road.  Hovering my mouse over the pace graph I can see most of the time I was running at 8m30s min miles or quicker.  We had a different coach tonight, as Heather is off for the week.  This speed is tough going for me!  I am desperate to stay up in Group 4 and did mention to Rob the coach that it was at about the same time last year, when things started to get hectic at school with exams, marking and reports due, alongside training the long miles for my marathon that I struggled to stay up in group 4 and ultimately, after my marathon had to go back down to train with group 5.  I am determined that this will not happen this year.  A lot of the session was about choosing our own lamp-posts to either run at easy pace between or tempo pace or 5k pace.  The ‘easy pace’ we were running at tonight was approx 9mm.  Not easy at all!!!  I was at the back for most of tonight but determined not to give up and arrive back when the rest of the group did with some energy left for cool down exercises.  I achieved my mission and felt that I burnt off way more than the 817 calories my watch said I burnt off!

Dan cooked my favourite pizza tonight as an easy and quick meal for when I got back from club.  Pesto, mozzerella and roasted vegetables.

We also had two glasses of sparkling wine and erm…the whole box of these chocolates between us (eight each) to celebrate six years together.

We don’t normally buy each other presents for our anniversary/valentines but I did buy The Long Way Round and The Long Way Down for both of us to watch.  (Dan loves Ewan McGregor and I’m starting to get a little crush too!)  So we watched The Long Way down with our wine and I fell asleep at about 9:40pm on the couch.  Dan woke me and we went up to bed about 10pm with the intention of a lie in  on Friday morning.  18 days off!  :)

Sleeping on the job!

Woke up still feeling exhausted just before 6am.  I had set my alarm for 6 so got up anyway.  I needed to use up the last of the blueberries, so had the same mix in my cereal as the last two mornings.  Back on the bagels tomorrow!

I felt pretty dizzy during my first two lessons this morning, which I put down to the lack of sleep I’ve had just lately.  At breaktime I picked at a Graze box.  Summer Pudding.  I quite like this one…yoghurt coated sunflower seeds, blackcurrants, sponge pieces and cranberries.  Both head and second in my department came in to my classroom to find out the result of my interview yesterday whilst I was munching away on this box!  Started to feel a little better and much less dizzy after break.

The second in department also brought me a mini Twirl bar in to bribe me for more information at lunchtime!  Which I followed up with two almost past it but extremely juicy plums!

Period 6 is a PPA period for me so I tried to catch up with some year 11 exam paper marking.  I began at 3pm…next thing I knew it was 3:20 and my face was pressed against the open sheet of one of the papers!  At least my door was shut and (to my knowledge!) no one saw me!

I drove in to work this morning with the intention on getting back early and heading out for a run.  My stomach was really rumbling at the end of school and I knew it wouldn’t be good to run on empty so when I stopped at the petrol station on the way home I picked up the most nutritional low cal snack I could find.  Unfortunately, in a petrol station in the middle of Cambridgeshire at rush hour on a Wednesday afternoon the best I could find was a ham and cheese lunchables box.  I couldn’t believe that this contained nearly half of my days salt intake in one package!  It cost me £1.99 as well!  I’ve never had one of these before but I can remember friends having them in their lunchboxes when I was younger.  It kept my hunger at bay at least.

IMAG0544When I got back I quickly grabbed two loads of wood in for the fire and got changed into my running gear.  I intended on 6+ miles tonight.  Slow and easy.  Whilst I was getting the wood in my fingers started to go numb again but I ignored it and started out slowly.  I decided to take the off-road track which happened to head out past the doctors.  About half a mile into my run I looked down at my left hand which was tingly and all three of my fingers that I have had problems with had turned BRIGHT blue!  The same colour as my Garmin!  I wasn’t far past the doctors so ran back to display my hand and see if they could fit me in for an appointment.  For the second time they could not and suggested trying my luck mid week day.  Why do people not understand that you can’t just take days off work on the off chance you can be fitted in for an appointment?!  I continued with my run and got to four miles before Dan drove past and I begged him for a lift home.  My legs had nothing in them today – I was completely exhausted.  My splits were 9:59, 10:17, 10:06 and 9:43.  (Looking at this now, I realise how much I would have loved those to have been my splits a year and a half ago!  I can really see how much I have improved.  :)   )

I’m not going to lie, my fingers really worried me this afternoon and my general tiredness I’ve had lately.  I know I’ve had a lot on but it’s coming to the end of term now and I still really can’t sleep!  Because I have the best boyfriend ever he let me run a bath and made us both a breaded turkey fillet with potatoes, carrots and peas followed by a hot chocolate (to help me sleep!).

I have decided that I will postpone the rest of 30 Day Shred – Level 2 until Friday, when school has finished and I can catch up on some of my sleep.  Running is more important at the moment with the marathon now less than six weeks away.  I am also going to try and keep track of my waking and going to bed times to see if I can notice a pattern and hopefully feel more alive again…!

Tired feeding

IMG_6652Catch up on yesterday’s eats…

When I’m tired or stressed I tend to eat rubbish.  At least I started off with a nice healthy (ish) breakfast.  My usual bowl of half Jordan’s strawberry cluster cereal and half blueberry wheats with the remainder of my blueberry pack thrown on top and all soaked in semi-skimmed milk.  And yes, that is a scoop of white chocolate spread on my spoon you see in the distance!

I was starving by the time they fed us on interview but sensibly chose a jacket potato with cheese and beans and an apple juice.  The other candidates were all choosing dessert and although I know I should have chosen some fruit, picked up a plate with what I was told was cheesecake on.  It tasted more like egg custard though.  Should have chosen the fruit!  I did look around but could see no salad bar at the school canteen.

After the interview I felt completely, completely exhausted.  Nobody can understand just how much I am looking forward to a lie-in on Friday morning!  I came home and ate some cookie dough.  Gah.  I then didn’t want tea.  Dan couldn’t be bothered to eat on his own despite me persuading him to.  In the end I sorted myself out a bit, stopped feeling so sorry for myself and baked a batch of cheese scones in the shape of hearts.  We both had a couple.  Hopefully today shall be a better day food and fitness wise.  I missed club last night because I was waiting for the phone call from the interview which didn’t come until nearly 6:45pm.  I was too exhausted to move, let alone jump around to level 2 of the 30 Day Shred.  Today is a new day.  Hopefully I shall make some better choices today…
