Double the babies, double the gift!

Today I headed to Stoke for my friend Amy’s baby shower.  It was a lovely sunny day and Amy’s younger sister had done a fantastic job with pink and blue decorations.  She didn’t choose both because Amy doesn’t know what sex the baby is, but because she is having twins.  One of each!

Amy baby shower giftInitially I planned on making something for the babies, but I’ve just not had time over the past few months so in the end bought two little hedgehog toys, some squirting duck bath toys, fun animal pacifiers and a handprint set in each colour.  I did pop Amy and husband’s wedding invitation into the basket as well, although I know they are unable to make our day.  Amy’s husband is usher at another wedding on the same day and Amy would be unable to drive the four hours to our venue with two small fortnight old babies!

Baby shower confettiMost of the people at the Baby Shower I had only met before at either Amy’s hen last year or her wedding.  I always wonder how many people I’ve met at events like this – thinking at the time I’ll probably never see them again, forgetting the other events that follow the hendo!

I’ve been getting lots of little snippets of information about my hen do this weekend.  But I don’t know how much of it is true and how much has been made up to make me feel uneasy!  At one point I was asked if I’d had my scuba outfit dry-cleaned recently?!  It’s now just four weeks until my hendo as I was reminded by one of my bridesmaids, Vicki when Dan and I met up with her and her boyfriend last night.

And just sixteen weeks until our wedding.  Putting it into weeks now rather than months has made it seem so much closer!

Tomorrow I’m marshaling at the Northampton Running Festival for Go Beyond in return for a free entry to Shires & Spires 35 on 1st June so it will be a busy day for me!  I hope the weather stays nice.  Initially I’d planned on running home after I was done for the day along with a few other runners, but think I’ll give my legs a bit of a rest and trial them over a shorter long run distance where I can cut it short if need be.

If you’re married, did you know anything about your hendo before the day?

    1. It’s funny how ideas of hendos change over time. I would much prefer a slightly calmer one now, with just my close friends, but if we had gotten engaged six or seven years ago I’m sure I would have had gone for something completely different!
Oh you should definitely have a baby shower. The last one I went to was girls only and we played lots of fun baby-themed games like ‘Guess what’s in the nappy?!’ (Peanut butter/Nutella/etc) and ‘How much string fits round the Mummy?’ Then basically had a big gossip session with cake. Always a winner! :)

    1. Everyone I’ve spoken to says my hendo is very me, and I’m pretty sure my Maid of Honour knows me well enough to go with something I’d like (fingers crossed tightly!!!)…so I’m OK with the surprises at the moment…!

  1. I organised my own hen-do, I went to a Dirty Dancing tribute night which had a meal while an actor/actress performed songs/dances from the film, then after the meal everyone could get up and dance. It was great, I was so so so drunk, I ended up climbing on-stage and taking the microphone out of ‘Johnny’s’ hand and singing! I was shocked at how terrible my singing was!
That was the last time I ever got drunk (4 years ago)!
I also had a hen-do with work friends, which was a meal at a Turkish restaurant which had a bellydancer. The food wasn’t great though!

    1. That sounds great! Hope someone managed to film your singing! 😛
Quite a few of the hendos I’ve been to have been organised by the bride themselves. Seems to be much more common nowadays.

    1. Not long at all now… :S
I think I will end up knowing roughly what’s happening about a week before as well. My Maid of Honour is planning on sending me out an invitation with clues!

  2. Oh wow! Twins are so much fun! I have identical twin cousins (girls) and Alfie has non-identical twin brothers. It’s lovely seeing how close and protective they are if ine another. Sounds like a lovely baby shower, I am tempted to have one of my own :-)

    1. Definitely have a baby shower!
Some of my best friends growing up were twins and I agree about closeness and protectiveness. You didn’t mess with them, they came as a two! How lovely that you have them on both sides of your family. Perhaps a future pregnancy for you might also see twins?… 😉

    1. I think there should always be a few surprises along the way! :)
Dan and I have quite different crowds and I’m not sure it would work for us but I think it’s lovely that you shared the evening with your husband and his friends too.
