Guests for our wedding!

For the past few months it has seemed as though there are several family members on a daily wedding countdown to our wedding.  As well as the year 10 girls at school…they update me each morning with how many days I have left!

I have never really instigated conversation about the wedding with people, but it’s still a hot topic of conversation at school right now!  Each Thursday morning, when I’m on break duty with a couple of other teachers, their favourite question seems to be “So how are the wedding plans coming on?!”  Every week I’ve sheepishly said “Ermm, I haven’t done anything this week.”  I don’t know if it’s just me, but when we first got engaged we were busy, busy, busy and there was loads to do – bookings to be organised and decisions to be made.  Now we’ve been engaged for nearly a year and there’s not a whole lot to do at all.  Although I have a feeling the month before the wedding it will all kick off again.

From the start of April we started passing out invitations gradually as and when we saw people in order to save on postage costs.  We still have about 20 or so to hand out/take to the postbox before the box on the dining room table is completely empty but I was starting to get a little concerned that we had had very few responses back, and they had all been ‘Decline with regret’ responses.

Today that changed!  We got the first response back with an ‘Accept with pleasure’ tick!  It was the Best Man’s parents.  Unfortunately they have poor taste in meals, choosing Dan’s dishes over mine(!), but I’m excited that my meal choice spreadsheet finally has it’s first entry!  :)

Wedding invitations responsesI can’t wait to see what choices everyone makes for their food.  And we’re both really looking forward to people enjoying our wedding breakfast meal.  The tasting session we had back in October left us both feeling very confident and happy with our choice of caterer.

What has been your favourite meal at a wedding?

  1. I love that the Year 10 girls have you on wedding countdown! Having just had my best friend’s nuptials, I know the amount of work that goes into a wedding – crazy! It is so worth it on the day though :)
My best friend had some fab meals at her wedding but my favourite was the sweetie bar, especially the pink Percy pigs :)

    1. Yeah, they have new questions for me to answer daily! And my Prep school kids keep drawing pictures of me in my wedding dress!
Hope you had a fantastic day for your friend’s wedding. It’s surprising just how much work goes into the day isn’t it? No wonder we’re known as ‘Bridezillas’…with all that work put in I’d want it to go right!
Love that you had Percy Pigs at the wedding!

  2. yayyyy!!! This is so exciting! Your wedding is closing in….. I loved getting the RSVPs and marking them off the big list. It made it feel so real and close to the big day.

Favorite meal- pasta and steak. mhmmmm can’t go wrong with carbs and some good meat :)

Although that chicken wrapped in bacon sounds pretty freakin amazing!

    1. It’s closing in a little scarily quickly now! We’ve had three responses back so far but two of the answers were nos, and only one yes. That one yes response made my day!
Dan would go for your pasta and steak choice. He was all for that when we first discussed menu choices!

  3. Your wedding planning experience sounds very similar to mine. We did so much early on and had a very easy ride of it up to the day.

Hurrah for your first accept! That’s very exciting :-) I loved that part, and I also enjoyed sorting out the seating plan.

Best wedding food was my manager’s hog roast. Our food was also lovely, but in the whirlwind of the day, I cannot remember what I had!

    1. Yeah, that was our thinking – get it done, have a rest, get more done, walk up the aisle!
I can’t wait to organise the seating plan. I’m going to have so much fun deciding where everyone is going to sit for the day!
I had a really nice hog roast at a wedding last year. I think I would prefer hog roast to a more formal meal, but Dan felt it important that we had a three course affair. We did consider it for the evening food, but just couldn’t afford it on top of the lunchtime sitdown meal.

  4. I’ve completely put any sort of wedding planning to the side. I’m (naively) thinking that since we’re doing it in November, we have plenty of time and it’s not like the venue we want will be booked then anyway, right?!
My favorite meal at a wedding is cake, always :)

    1. Get the big bits booked, then forget about it for a few months. That was our thinking and it’s been quite relaxing – I know I could have let myself get too stressed over it otherwise!

  5. The cake always wins at weddings! Only if it is fruit cake though :)
As I am veggie I usually have one choice (which I am not complaining about, I know that is my choice) so it is not always that good, but at my cousins’s wedding I was the only veggie so they sent me the options from the caterer and let me choose which was really lovely of them.

    1. That’s a really nice idea about letting you choose what you wanted to eat. Although I’m not an actual vegetarian, (I just don’t really like the texture of meat) unless I can see what the vegetarian option is beforehand, I tend to stick with the planned meat option and swap it for Dan’s veg at weddings. Some of the vegetarian dishes can be too heavy with pastry and creamy sauces.

  6. It’s funny because I remember being rammed with stuff to do for the wedding right at the start, then there was this lull until a few weeks before when suddenly everything had to be decided, like flowers, stationary, cake etc. Made things fairly hectic with all the outings we had to go on to get things sorted. Glad things seem to be in control for you!

    1. Haha! I’ve kind of blocked off the few weeks before the wedding for last minute panic bits with all the things I know I will have forgotten. I’m certain it’ll be incredibly hectic for us by then again too!

    1. We’ve started to get one back a day now. I never knew how much I loved the post! :) Although you had lots of fun planning your wedding you’ve got just as much fun headed your way planning for your arrival now. That’s probably even more exciting!

    1. We’re inviting 80 to the ceremony and about 120 to the evening, but most of those are couples or families, so I didn’t have quite so many invitations to send out!
We loved the food tasting, despite being nervous when we rocked up at an industrial site, then a council estate beforehand. We weren’t sure what to expect, but the food is going to be amazing! No doubt!

    1. I’m glad they’re coming to us. Not sure I could sit in suspense at home waiting for my Mum to text…she’d always be forgetting!
We’ve invited about 80 guests to the full day, so have about 40 invitations to come back to us.
