Travel and scratch

One of the presents Dan and I got for Christmas was a Travel and Scratch map.  The idea is to scratch off all of the countries you have visited.  I’ve wanted one of these for a while.Travel and scratch mapAs you can see, although Dan and I have covered quite a lot of Europe, we still have several countries to explore!  Best get to it!  When we move/extend our house and have a bit more space we’ll get this framed and up on the wall.

Today I grabbed some lunch from M&S before heading to Peterborough for the afternoon.M&S lunchThis was a tasty combo…chicken pesto flatbread, followed by a marzipan bar…always a winner!

I was off to Peterborough to make plans with three other bridesmaids for a friend’s hen do due to take place at the start of March.  The plans for the hen weekend are finally starting to fall into place now.  This will be my fourth time as bridesmaid over the past couple of years, so I’m no stranger to regular hen planning meetups!

The weather this morning was awful, and I had intended on taking one more day off from running.  Now I don’t mind running in the rain but it’s a whole different thing to go out walking in the rain and that definitely wasn’t on my to-do-list this morning!  Keeping moving over the past few days has helped my back stop stiffening up though so this evening when I returned from Peterborough I decided to pace out in the corner of the lounge whilst watching the final episodes of Orange is the New Black.  (Have I mentioned how hooked I am on this show?!)  Pacing in the corner of the room helped me to reach my step quota for the day as well as loosen up my lower back and make it more comfortable for me when I did sit down.

When I was at my worst the other day it was painful to sit down for too long so I kind of perched on the radiator in the corner of the room.  Dan joined me so that I didn’t feel left out and when Bella emerged from her sleep on the bed upstairs she rather confusedly stood down at my feet and joined us in the corner of the room.  Little cutey cat!

Do you ever work out whilst watching shows on TV?

  1. I hope your back gets better soon.
    Love the marzipan bar :)
While we were away we listened to a lot of podcasts, so on a few days I either walked up and down the stairs, or there was a step between the living room and bedroom so I did that for about 30 mins- just so I was not sat around all day. Although most days we went out somewhere for a walk so it was OK.
I sometimes foam roll in front of TV shows, but that is all really.

    1. I much prefer going out for walks than inside, but I am conscious about how long I’ve been sitting down for if I get too addicted to a series!

  2. I like the way you’ve only scratched off the relevant US state on your map ~ I would have done the same thing. It’s a fantastic concept, but they definitely should have divided the USA rather than having it as one conglomerate mass…it’s basically the same as having ‘Europe’ rather than marking out individual countries.

Your back problem really does sound similar to the issues I experience with my scoliosis ~ that’s in my lower back too, and I suffer from permanent spasms down the right hand side. I can’t sit down at all when it’s really bad, and therefore I always either lie down with a pillow between my knees, or stand and walk around while I’m watching things on the computer (rarely bother with TV and I usually watch on catch-up online if there’s anything I fancy). I definitely think yours is muscle related from what you said in your reply to my previous comment…I would recommend yoga and particularly backbends as they help me a lot, as well as physio/massage, but as my issues stem from having a misshapen spine and I’m not sure what the cause/origin of yours is, I definitely think seeing a pro would be the best idea.

I hope your run went/is going well and there are minimal back issues!

    1. Totally agree about America. Wish they had split it up into states. It was really hard to work out roughly where Idaho and Washington were!
My run yesterday did go well thank you. Although it started off a little painful I think that was down to the cold weather before I had warmed up. I even wore a t-shirt over a long sleeved top to try and keep warm and I never do that! I’ve googled some yoga poses and have some to try out when I feel my back is ready to take them on. I think getting back into a routine where I’m moving most of the day will help it too, so fingers crossed I will have forgotten all about it by next week…

  3. Totally loving the concept of the scratch map, a sure way to always feel inspired and motivated to travel. I would love to get away to somewhere different this year, we have friends in Denmark so that is looking likely. I’ve still got a marzipan bar in the cupboard to try, I may have to treat myself to it later tonight. 😉

    1. Hope you enjoyed that marzipan bar! :)
Denmark is on our yet to travel-to list as well. We will scratch them ALL!!! (Probably not, but I’m up for having a good go at it!)

  4. Love the scratch map!! I want one! I probably need one for the UK too as I’m keen to visit more British places as well as travelling abroad.
Sorry about your back still being rubbish :( Hopefully it’ll sort itself out soon.
I did get in Orange is the New Black but then I sort of got bored. I was watching it without Ben which always causes me difficulties because I like to watch programmes with Ben. So usually the programmes I watch on my own are rubbish reality ones that I can dip in and out of now and again.

    1. That would be a good idea – to have one with all the counties on in the UK for scratching.
Dan and I are really into our series, but I wouldn’t dare watch it without him. I once put on an episode of Dexter we’d both seen before and he got home in the middle of me watching it. Really will never let me forget that mistake! Haha!
